so we decided to stay for one more day/night in phi phi island. we heard that phuket wasn't that great so we figured all we need is one full day/night there. today Erik went rock climbing and i took care of a few errands/activities of my own including booking a 3rd night at our Palms resident hotel! maybe we get to see the lady boy again :)
so we also noticed that while we are walking around EVERY shop is selling t's and tangs with suzan demir's face on it! im telling everyone i know her.. its kind of bizarre to see her face all over thailand so i took a lot of pics. for those of you who are confused, suzan is the one that runs la pomme, it's evelina's boss. she came to a few Knicks games, but she always texts me when SNL afterparty is at la pomme. so i HAD to buy a shirt, for $6. it is pretty much novelty at this point.
so i had a chance to rent a kayak for the day and kayak over to monkey island b/c i didnt really have enough time when we went on the sailboat yesterday. we only spent 20 min there. today is spent 2 hours!~ you are able to purchase food to feed them but its not good to get too close or tease them. at least i didnt learn the hard way...
i went over to the food stand after buying some bananas earlier in the day. i wanted to rent some snorkling gear b/c the marine life is pretty awesome there. i was about knee deep in a conversation with an Australian backpacker next to me, discussing the standard, where are you from, how long are you here bs. and all of a sudden we see a guy/girl running into the water fast, and the girl screaming. we were told to run into the water if the monkeys chase you. the girl was screaming histerically, and then a few seconds later the monkeys scattered off as they made there way into the water. only a few seconds later you see her leg gushing in blood. her bf picked her up and carrying her to land and was ordering us to call an ambulance. I was thinking to myself... why do you call an ambulance? how is an ambulance going to drive over to this island, then the rationalization kicked in they put her in a boat and took her to the main land. about 15 people hovered around her as they tried to stop the bleeding and they wrapped her leg up . the size of the gash was about 3 inches long and about 1.2 cm deep. it was pretty bad. she probably has rabbies now. i realized how they happened, b/c the monkey got pissed b/c she was teasing it. she kept showing him food and then putting it away. dont tease the monkeys OR they will eat you alive. after that incident, i just took a few more pics from a distance and then i did some snorkeling. i packed it up , packed it in, and about to begin... my journey back to the main phi phi island. once i returned i realized i had not finished where i started so i had to walk all the way back to the place where i rented and left the kayak behind.
so today- for a total cost of $40 dollars:
1) Ripcurl bathing suit - $12
2) tshirt - with suzan demir's picture on it - $6
3) 2 tang tops - $6
4) Kayak - $10
5) coconut, 2 bananas and monkey food - $ 3
6) Snorkling gear - $3
7) 200 monkey pictures- free
8) watching someone get attached - priceless, but in a bad way
Eric-as soon as you get home you need to find a publisher! This will make a great book! If you mention my name in the dedication I will try to convince the English Department of Norwalk Community College to make it required reading!
ReplyDeleteJane Goodell would be proud of you, respecting the monkeys. How's the acid reflux situation? Not not the monkey's acid reflux . . yours?
ReplyDeleteHi Eric! I love your descriptive writing too.
ReplyDeleteHey Curious George the monkey (your nickname when you were little since you were always curious and getting into mischief like Curious George)-so glad you did not learn about how to deal with the monkeys the hard way. Hope that young woman is OK. Hope you are feeling better too! Love Mom
